.22 cal Ammo question.

Is there a lead free .22 LR , .22 short .etc ?
If there is ever a full lead ban on ammo , what would the options be for the .22
If my only half full box of 50 were to fall into the lake the day before the ban what would I do when the shops remove the evil lead ones from the shelf before I get there ?

Just stock up on .22 LR ammo from Wally World. I am sitting on around 40 boxes now of the Federal 550 count boxes. That should be enough to last me a hell of a long time, ban or no ban.

My local WallyWorld has the Federal 550 round boxes for $13.47 each. Not too shabby at all. I picked up another half dozen boxes today while getting some groceries.

Ok , in reality there may be a box or 2 more that stated above  so that aside .Is there such a thing as a lead free .22 LR , short or mag round in production at this time ?
If not , would that be the end of the .22 as anything other than a wall ornament for those that didn't stock up ?

I might suggest there will be a period of lawlessness if such immediate bans came to pass.
Prolly just wishful thinking.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no non-lead .22LR being made today. These proposed lead bans do concern me as well. I'm close to 3000 .22 LR rounds, but that's probably less than half of what I should have. The 10K number is often quoted for what one should hold in .22 LR.

You ever go there late in the evening and run into the crazy old short woman working back in sporting goods? She cracks me up with some of her comments when I go in there and buy a couple hundred dollars of ammo at a time.

I only have four Wally World boxes:bawling: However, I do see another four in the near future. It is the only gun that is cheap to shoot.

.22 is popcorn.
Buy the big tub and it is gone in no time.

Not sure if it's the same person, but the one who helped me yesterday was an older, grumbling, wheezing lady who was called away from restocking/destocking shelves of Valentine's Day stuff.

Winchester is releasing some lead-free loads in .22 LR and .22 WMR. The bullets are made from tin and are lighter than lead bullets. The .22 LR loads were hyper-velocity loads.

I suspect the CA legislation banning lead rimfire rounds in some areas will be enacted in other parts of the country, leading to more lead-free rounds.
